Adult Day Services

Side By Side, Kent County

The Side By Side program, located on the Northwest side of Grand Rapids at our picturesque Family Life Center, provides respite day services to primary caregivers of older adults with age onset disabilities, including cognitive impairments. Side By Side seeks to create and sustain an enhanced environment that nourishes individual potential, promotes community cohesiveness, and serves as the benchmark for excellence in mental health services.

A care plan is developed with each participant and in collaboration with the family and caregivers.  The primary focus of Side By Side is to provide enrichment activities such as gardening, art, dance, and music. The program is designed to maintain or improve social, educational, psychological, and physical challenges of the participants, while providing a positive impact on body, mind, and spirit.

In our “Living Gardens”, participants enjoy rolling waterfalls and beautiful landscaping where fruits, vegetables, and annual and perennial flowers flourish. The Family Life Center also includes an atrium and is designed to accommodate year round gardening activities.

Heart of West Michigan United Way invites you to take on the Small Business Challenge, created through a generous matching grant of $100,000 from the Steelcase Foundation. Any new United Way gift of $1,000 or more from a workplace of 100 or less employees will be matched up to a total of $100,000 by the end of March 2012.

Small businesses are the heart of most communities, yet during the 2010 United Way Campaign small businesses of 100 employees or less made up only 11.5% of total campaign dollars. This campaign year, United Way is hoping to change that with the Small Business Challenge.
