Teresea Schlump
Elderly Programs Director

Teresea has been with Hope Network since 1987 and has a BA in Recreation Administration. Teresea has received special training from the Alzheimer's Association, and has a Certificate in Aging from Grand Rapids Community College. Her favorite part about Side by Side is interacting with the participants and families and being able to offer great programming to the individuals and respite for the care partners. "The trust that the care partners place in us to care for their loved ones at this point in their lives is humbling. It is an honor to serve the individuals and their families. We are so well connected, that it truly feels like family. “

 

Alessandra Sala-Jasinski
Program Manager

Alessandra is an Elementary School Teacher in her home country of Italy and has received special training related to Mental Illness. She has been with Hope Network for over 17 years, Alessandra enjoys the environment at Side by Side because the building feels warm, safe and comfortable and the gardens are magnificent: a great place to take a walk or visit with the participants. "Being with the participants and listening to their stories, their wisdom, their lives is such an honor and I feel privileged to have this opportunity -- they are incredible teachers."


Vy Bui
On-Call Activity Assistant

Vy has been working with Hope Network since Spring of 2009. She loves working with everyone at Side By Side. Vy enjoys interacting and socializing with all the participants. She loves working at Side By Side and would not want to work anywhere else.


Thomas Bulgarella
Activity Assistant

Tom has been with Hope Network since 2007. He is a certified Medical Assistant, Tom enjoys working with our older adults. The Side by Side Program and training provided offers a huge help for Tom whose parent also suffers with dementia. Side by Side is a blessing as it offers valuable tools for Tom as he continues caring for his mother.


Carole Dietrich
Kitchen Staff

Carole has been with Hope Network since 2005 and has special training in the areas of Dietary, Medical and Psychology. She enjoys working at Side by Side because of the people, both staff and participants.

 

Beth Gregory RN
Program Nurse

Beth has been with Hope since November 2009. She received her nursing degree in Houston Texas. Beth is certified as a Faith Community Nurse that was obtained at Calvin College. Beth has special training related to Mental Illness and Dementia. Beth is a certified volunteer for the Alzheimer Association. Beth enjoys her work at Side by Side as it is a warm and friendly place. The Gardens are beautiful. Beth considers this her “dream job”.

 


Jean James
Activity Assistant

Jeannie started with Hope Network in the spring of 2007 after 18 years of working in the Chemistry field. Jeannie has experience in advocating for persons with disabilities due to raising a son with such and volunteering throughout the years representing those with special needs in the local school district. Jeannie is also an artist with a passion in assisting individual express themselves through art and music when words have lost their meaning. She believes that Jesus lived a life of example for her to attempt to follow honoring all people; His kingdom was based on no discrimination to race, class and/or ability.

 


Mary Kaiser
Activity Assistant 

Mary started with Hope Network shortly after the Side by Side program began. Her responsibilities began in the gardens, caring for multiple planters, the garden areas of flowers, vegetable and herbs. She has a BA and MA from Aquinas College and St Mary of the Woods in Indiana. Along with her many gardening and Horticulture classes, she has been studying Tai Chi for 11 years and has successfully tested with two different Masters. Mary enjoys and is enriched bringing nurturing, healing experiences and activities into the lives of people who need a guiding, loving and respectful supportive hand in this process.

 


Anna M. Papke
Support Coordinator/Activity Assistant

Anna has been with Hope Network since 2005 and has her BA from Cornerstone University in Psychology and Family Studies. Anna has also received a Certificate in Aging, from Grand Rapids Community College and is a Certified Care Partner Support Group Facilitator through the Alzheimer's Association. Anna enjoys working at Side by Side because she loves being part of a team who are able to provide a better quality of life for those we serve, at the same time providing peace of mind for those coping with the struggles of a dementia related illness.

 


Johanna T. Sizick
Activity Assistant

Johanna has been with Hope Network since 2002. She has BA and MA from Aquinas College, and certifications as a Jr. High and High School Teacher. Johanna enjoys her role at Side by Side because she can be of service at a time when people need it.   She also enjoys how much she learns personally, through the rewards and challenges of her work at Side by Side.

Applied Behavior Analysis for Autism Spectrum Disorders

Grand Rounds is a new series of professional lunchtime lectures covering a variety of topics relating to autism spectrum disorders and other neurodevelopmental conditions, including ABA, Speech and Language Pathology, and supporting children and adults with autism. Lectures are free of charge and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring their lunch. Following each lecture, there will be an opportunity for questions and answers.


All lectures are from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the Hope Network Education Center, 775 36th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI.

WGVU  |  Hope Network is a non-profit Christian organization well known in Michigan for providing a broad continuum of care in the treatment of brain and spinal cord injuries, developmental disabilities, and mental illness. WGVU’s Caroline MacGregor reports on the organization’s efforts to streamline services and address the alarming mortality rate among people with mental health disabilities.
