West Lake

Ionia County

West Lake provides continuous residential treatment and support services for adults living with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities.  The West Lake campus houses six cottages, all specialized AFC homes, including four 6-bed, one 9-bed, and one 12-bed. Located on over 100 acres, the cottages at West Lake are within close proximity, offering a community of support for residents. Though we encourage the community aspect, we recognize the importance of privacy and individuality by offering each individual his or her own private bedroom that can be decorated.

The program serves individuals challenged with chronic mental illness, and/or those who are dually diagnosed with a developmental disability or have a history of substance abuse. This may also include adults requiring intensive and consistent behavioral intervention.  We also offer treatment programs for individuals who have a dual diagnosis of mental illness and borderline personality disorder.  West Lake’s programs are able to accommodate a wide range of needs and desires.

West Lake staff utilize evidence-based treatment to residents with a holistic, person-centered approach, tailored to each individual's specific goals. Residents are encouraged and empowered to participate in all aspects of the program including establishing house rules, staff interviews, evaluations, recreational activities and day program.

West Lake offers a comprehensive therapeutic environment. The program is designed to create a safe, innovative, and therapeutic milieu where all members grow and learn. Our supportive clinical team includes a psychiatrist, behavior analyst, MSW Case Manager, RN, LPN, therapist, administrative team, and Residential Advocate staff in the home 24 hours a day.  The standard staffing ratio is 2:1 for the 6 bed, and 3:1 for the other cottages.

West Lake Outcome Measures:

  • Movement to less restrictive settings
  • Participation in daily therapeutic and vocational programming
  • Maximize opportunities to be members of the community
  • Maximize the satisfaction of the individuals served as well as guardian and funder satisfaction.

Structured day activities include:
