Volunteer Transportation System

Hope Network’s Volunteer Transportation System is a volunteer based transportation network designed to assist those on Medicaid to get to and from non-emergency medical appointments. This statewide program was created in 1997 to assist disadvantaged people living in rural Michigan with no means of transportation access to non-emergency medical treatment.

With approximately 100 volunteer drivers, this system is the largest in the state of Michigan. In 2007, our volunteer drivers transported approximately 3000 people and traveled over 1.3 million miles. The average trip is 90 miles. Service is now available throughout Michigan, and portions of Ohio and soon Illinois.

All transportation is approved through the health insurance provider. The health insurance provider, not Hope Network Transportation, is the gatekeeper and determines eligibility. Request for service must specify, “Non-Emergency Medical Transportation.”
